IT for Independent and Faith-Based Schools

A school runs on a calendar that does not move. The technology has to be ready when the doors open.

Copperband supports more than 20 independent and faith-based K-12 schools across Nashville, Clarksville, Hopkinsville, and Middle Tennessee, along with private colleges. Copperband has supported schools since opening in 2016, backed by education-technology experience dating to 1996.

How we work in schools

  • Full managed and co-managed IT. Some schools have a technology director who runs the day to day and brings Copperband in for the layer underneath: wireless and switching design across buildings, firewall and VPN, the backup chain, and the projects that are larger than one person. Other schools have no technology staff at all, and Copperband is the whole desk.
  • Wireless, switching, and the buildings they run through. Classroom boards, shared carts, and one-to-one devices all land on the same wireless. We design and support the switching and access points that carry them, including in the gym and in the older buildings where the answer is never simply another access point.
  • Colleges. The same work in a different shape. More buildings, more departments running their own way, and students arriving with their own devices.
  • Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Schools run on one or the other and sometimes both. We handle bulk student account loads at the start of term, OAuth and app consent, and the security detections that come out of those platforms. When a request involves an app that students under 18 would use, that decision goes to the head of school, not to us.
  • Backup, and the proof that it ran. On-site storage and the backup chain behind it. A backup nobody checks is a plan, not a protection.
  • Phones, bells, and paging. We support school phone systems including the bell schedule and the paging speakers. When the schedule changes for an assembly or early dismissal, we handle the corresponding bell and paging changes.
  • Planning, budgeting, and funding. School technology moves on a budget cycle and often through a committee. We identify replacements, licensing, and larger projects early enough to be budgeted rather than discovered. Copperband is an E-Rate SPIN vendor and can participate in eligible E-Rate-funded projects. On funded work we help scope what is eligible, provide quotes, coordinate documentation, and work with grant administrators.

Background checks

Copperband technicians are fingerprinted as part of the standards required for our public-safety work. That same standard applies to the technicians we send into schools and other campus environments.
